Statement of Intent
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and associated protective legislation, the company, both as an employer and as a company, has duties in respect of health, safety and welfare.
The company recognises these responsibilities and undertakes to implement all measures that are reasonably practicable to JG Cleaning is dedicated to ensuring:
That the way in which we develop our undertaking contributes to the well-being of the community at large.
In order to comply with this statutory duty the company will :
We require the full and active participation of all our employees in order that the principles outlined in this policy statement may be achieved. The statutory duties placed on JG Cleaning and all their employees. We aim to achieve best practice in terms of health and safety in all that we do.
- The health, safety and welfare of all our staff and others who work under our control
- The safety of the general public who use or have access to premises or sites under our control
- Keep up to date with best practice in relation to health and safety and comply with all relevant legislation and authoritative guidance;
- To ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, those who undertake work on our behalf apply the highest standards of health and safety for their employees and the community in general;
- Co-operate actively with local authorities, statutory bodies and public services in the interests of public safety and the safeguarding of the environment;
- Maintain to a high standard the estate and working practices in respect of all the premises and sites over which we have control;
- Give a high priority to health and safety in all our operations;
- Develop, implement and monitor health and safety regimes appropriate to our work;
- Co-operate with, and monitor, the performance of contractors who work for us;
- Provide the necessary resources to implement our policies and keep them up to date;
- Consolt with, and involve, our staff in matters affecting their health and safety;
- Provide the necessary equipment and training for the tasks to be performed;
- Where necessary supplement our in-house resources with external resources; and
- Enlist specialist support to keep our policies and procedures up to date.
- Management responsibilities
- General responsibilities of the manager and other staff:
The manager is expected to actively support the development and proper implementation of JG Cleaning’s policies. The manager is expected to demonstrate their commitment to health and safety by setting a good example themselves and by ensuring that health and safety ranks equal with other aspects of management activities within their own sphere of control.
All members of staff including management have responsibilities for implementation of health and safety.
These responsibilities are summarised in the following sections : - Management must:
- By leadership and personal example, foster positive attitudes towards health and safety. The director will ensure that health and safety is given the same priority and importance as any other corporate or business line objective.
- Consider the health and safety implications to employees and non-employees of decisions made at either a strategic or operational level and act accordingly.
- Ensure that management know, understand and are held accountable for their individual responsibilities under JG Cleaning’s health and safety policy through performance management processes.
- Ensure that JG Cleaning has the appropriate resources in order to fulfil all health and safety responsibilities including the provision of information, instruction and training.
- Establish appropriate mechanisms to allow the dissemination of information, and the communication and consultation on matters which affect the health and safety of employees (e.g.. endings of risk assessments).
- Make the necessary arrangements to ensure thathealth and safety risk assessments are carried out for all work activities and processes within their area, and ensure that measures identified are implemented, their effectiveness monitored and reviewed at a timely interval.
- Make the necessary arrangements to ensure that staff safety representatives appointed can effectively carry out their duties.
Organisation and arrangements for implementing the health and safety policy:
Throughout this statement, “all persons at work” includes managers, employees, subcontractors and their staff, and any other person visiting the place of work.
- Ultimate responsibility, for the health and safety of all persons at work, lies with the managing director.
- The managing director has responsibility for ensuring that the company complies with all legal and regolatory requirements in relation to health and safety and implementing any guidance as far as is reasonably practicable.
- The managing director is responsible for identifying and folfilling the training and information needs of persons at work in regard to health and safety.
- The managing director will ensure that there is an effective system for joint consoltation with employees on health and safety issues.
- Safe systems of work will be designed and documented by management.
- The managing director will ensure that there is an effective system for reporting, recording and investigating accidents. The system implemented will comply with legal requirements.
- First aid facilities will be provided and a first aider designated to be readily available.
- Management will ensure that all tools and equipment, (particolarly high-risk equipment such as ladders and other access equipment) is used in such a manner so as to comply with specific health and safety regolations and legal requirements.
- Management will ensure that volnerable staffs are adequately supervised to prevent, as far as reasonably practicable, risk of injury or ill health.
